Feel a peaceful and high-class quality
By protecting the environment through our business activities, we contribute to the SDGs.
As a company that provides water-related products, the TOTO Group recognizes its responsibility to address the challenge of water resource depletion, which significantly affects people’s lives.
Accordingly, we continue to develop products that deliver both high water-saving performance and user comfort, and we promote their global adoption to achieve sustained reductions in water consumption during product use.
We are working to reduce the amount of water needed to comfortably use toilets while ensuring thorough waste discharge.
Currently, the NEOREST series achieves a flush volume of 3.8 liters per use, and we are also striving to improve water-saving performance in faucets and showers.
We recognize the impact of climate change as a business risk and are working to reduce greenhouse gas emissions based on scientific evidence.
On average, our products are used for a period of 10 to 20 years.
From the perspective of the product life cycle, this means that the use phase accounts for more than 90% of total CO2 emissions.
By actively striving to reduce emissions during the use stage of the product life cycle, we aim to realize comfortable and eco-friendly daily living.
Regarding CO2 emissions from business activities, we are advancing reduction plans that consider long-term business growth.
As part of this effort, we are actively introducing renewable energy sources.
A Carbon Neutral Lifestyle and Water
TOTO's Carbon Neutrality Commitment
INITIATIVE
TOTO supports international initiatives to achieve a sustainable society and carbon neutrality.
In June 2021, TOTO obtained certification from the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) for targets to limit global warming to well below 2°C (WB2ºC).
In March 2024, we updated our 2030 greenhouse gas emission reduction targets and received certification for 1.5°C-level targets, aiming to limit the rise in global average temperature to below 1.5°C compared to pre-industrial levels.

Agreed to the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) in May 2019

Joined the global RE100 initiative in April 2021

Acquired SBTi certification in June 2021
PRODUCT TRANSPARENCY
Within the TOTO Group, we evaluate the environmental impact during the product planning and design process by referencing guidelines related to life-cycle assessment, and we strive to improve the energy-saving and water-saving performance of our products. In light of increasing expectations for the highly transparent disclosure of Environmental data aimed at achieving carbon neutrality in recent years, we have been objectively assessing Environmental impact across the entire value chain for major products
To quantitatively and objectively evaluate the environmental impact throughout all stages of a product's lifecycle, from the procurement of materials to manufacturing, transportation, use, and disposal.
As part of these initiatives, we have obtained Environmental Product Declarations (EPD) for our representative products such as "Back-to-Wall, Floor Standing toilets, wall-hung toilets, mixer faucets, WASHLET® , and Smart toilet."* An EPD is a report in which the environmental impact—from raw material procurement to manufacturing, logistics, use, disposal, and recycling—is calculated using a method compliant with ISO (ISO14040/44) and verified by a third-party organization.
We will continue to use LCA to identify environmental impacts at each stage of the value chain and work to reduce them.
For products that have obtained an EPD, please check the link.
For sustainable future development where water resources are used effectively, the activities of local organizations are as essential as corporate business.
To support this, the TOTO Group established the TOTO Water Environment Fund in 2005 and continues to support organizations engaged in water-related environmental activities.
Introduction of TOTO Water Environment Fund
Based on the passion of our stakeholders, the TOTO Water Environment Fund provides grants to support local organizations.
In addition to financial support through grants, TOTO Group employees participate in the activities of the grant recipients, working together with local communities to solve challenges.
This is a unique system where the involvement of both internal and external stakeholders in the Fund raises their awareness of social issues, thereby expanding the circle of participants in our activities.

The amount of money to be donated to the fund is determined by converting the following three into the amounts of money, combining them, and further adding the same amount as the combined total (as a TOTO complement): (1) the volume of water saved with the water-saving products purchased by customers, (2) the shareholders’ endorsements for the donation by choosing the donation option in the preferential system for shareholders, and (3) the number of TOTO Group employees participating in volunteer activities and donation. The greater the stakeholders’ involvement in the water-environment initiatives, the more money is allocated to the TOTO Water Environment Fund.
With a passion to solve the water-environment challenge with the organizations, the screening committee elected from among the TOTO Group employees select the organizations to support, based on whether their activities can be deeply rooted in the regions and are designed to be long-lasting rather than temporary. The TOTO Group has been organizing the TOTO WEF-Supported Organization Meetup events every year to establish a network of the supported organizations.

The local residents and the TOTO Group employees participate in the activities of the supported organizations. Even after the end of the funding period, they have been continuing exchanges with people in the local communities including the supported organizations, spreading the circle of participants in the activities for solving water environment challenges year by year.
The internal and external stakeholders’ involvement in the TOTO Water Environment Fund raises their awareness of the social issues, spreading the circle of participants in the activities for solving water-environment challenges.
